Christian protesters in Sudan were flogged Thursday after authorities tried to move their Easter celebration out of a public square. Sudanese whipped 53 of the Christians as punishment when they resisted being moved, including women and children. The Christians had planned to fight off police and authorities with their deadly Easter egg skills.
Salon - Sudan, home to some 28 million muslims and Africa´s largest country, is not the most Jesus-friendly place to be.
Christians gathered in a public square for an Easter ceremony became angered when authorities tried to move the gathering behind closed doors. An altercation with police followed, with tear gas liberally dispensed among the gathered throng.
When the crowd was dispersed, Sudanese police proceeded to flog 53 captured protesters. Women and children were sent home after their whipping, while men would serve 20 days in jail.
Flogging is common in Sudan, where drinking alcohol and/or having sex can be a crime. Organizers for MTV´s Spring Break 2002, upon hearing this, have bumped the country down to #2 on their list of possible locations, making Siberia the new front-runner.
