MSN - In a bold move today DaimlerChrysler divested itself of its shares in the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Shareholders of DaimlerChrysler breathed a sigh of relief and started making plans to rid the company of the Chrysler part.

Mitsubishi the corporation has a long history in Japan. During World War II Mitsubishi built the Zero, a cheap, light vehicle that was popular among people who didn´t value their lives or safety, setting the tone for the cars to follow.

The collaboration between Chrysler and Mitsubishi has been ongoing for many years and includes the much loved Diamond Star Motors that introduced such luminaries as the Eclipse, the Laser and the Proton Cannon.

Spokesmen indicate that even though DaimlerChrysler no longer owns part of Mitsubishi Motors the companies plan to extend mutually beneficial projects they are working on jointly together. Joint projects in the works include such technological breakthroughs as wheels that don´t fall off and tuna cans with large rear spoilers for extra downforce.
